Meridian Veterinary Clinic strongly encourages spaying or neutering all dogs and cats. These procedures not only help to control the overabundance of unwanted puppies and kitties that are produced every year, but also reduces the risk of a number of health problems that occur in intact pets. These disorders, such as mammary cancer, infections of the uterus (pyometra), prostatic conditions, and behavioural problems can all be significantly reduced in animals that have been spayed or neutered. We recommend that animals be spayed or neutered between 4-6 months of age. This procedure is considered a day surgery and your pet can often return home the afternoon after his or her surgery. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions regarding this procedure.
